On the 6th of October 2019 Edo Maas collided head-on with a car that drove on to the course of the Tour of Lombardy.
Literally, his young but promising cycling career ended in one fell swoop. Edo rode for the Sunweb development squad and he was living the dream. But while descending the Madonna di Ghisallo, his dream was ended abruptly.
The accident caused Edo to become paraplegic (t6) and completely paralysed from the chest down. He is now permanently in a wheelchair. Before his accident Edo travelled a lot. Now he always needs someone to take him when he wants to go long distances.
Edo was a member of cycling club Ahoy and Ice-skating Club Rotterdam. These two clubs came up with the initiative to raise money to buy a car with hand controls for him. This will give Edo a little of his independence back.
But we do need help to do this, a lot of help.
